The two most popular crops on the island include the olive tree and the grape vine. • Short lifespan: The lifespan of a grape vine is a maximum of 30 years before it needs to be replaced. These are additional costs that investors should consider.

Olive trees have a much longer lifespan than grape vines. They can live for several years and produce continuously. Grape vines have a lifespan of around 25 to 30 years and only then need to be replaced. Olive plantations, on the other hand, can be used for up to 75 years – and longer depending on the species – before they need to be replaced. The highly sought-after wood from the olive trees can then be further processed or sold.
